Dr. Lana Zinck, Ph.D., C. Psych.
Registered Psychologist, School and Clinical Psychology
Our busy lifestyles present challenges to being fully available for our children’s emotional needs. To add to the challenge is the fact that many of us were parented in ways that did not support our own emotional regulation! Young people need parents who can guide them effectively to navigate the inevitable ups and downs that life presents.
I work with parents to help them understand how to effectively and empathically respond to their child’s needs. Therapy provides a unique opportunity for parents to take the time to reflect on the kind of parent they would like to be and how to get there. When we change how we look at our children and some of their challenging behaviours, we can make important shifts in how we relate to them.
Increasing understanding of our children’s emotional needs allows parents to respond in a skillful manner. Parents can enjoy happier and healthier relationships with their children when they learn how to respond effectively to challenging behaviours.
Dr. Lana also works part-time in private practice with Dr. Karen Steele and Associates where she conducts comprehensive psychoeducational assessments and provides consultation and coaching to parents as well as therapeutic support to children and adolescents. Prior to this, she was employed at the Toronto District School Board (TDSB) and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
Dr. Lana obtained her B.Sc. in Psychology at McMaster University, followed by her MA and Ph.D. in the School/Applied Child Psychology Program at McGill University. She completed her internship at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).
