Can I Support My Anxious Child Without Burning Out?

Anxiety & Stress

By: Dr. Zia

My Child’s Anxiety Seems to Take Up a Lot of My Resources

Parenting a child with anxiety can be incredibly demanding, often requiring a significant investment of time, emotional energy, and sometimes even financial resources.

Here’s how you can support your child while also taking care of your own well-being.

  1. Recognize the impact.
  2. Educate yourself on what anxiety is, and how it maintains itself.
  3. Recognize the role that you may be playing in your child’s anxiety- making accomodations maintains anxiety.
  4. Validate your child– as disruptive as it is, anxiety is uncomfortable and they are suffering- they need your support.
  5. Develop a support network and look after yourself. You cannot drive a car on an empty tank.
  6. Seek professional help– anxiety is treatable and professionals are here to help.
