Coping with the competing demands and pressures of today’s world can feel overwhelming, for both young people and the caregivers supporting them.
Children and adolescents are facing increasing social, emotional, and academic pressures before they have fully developed the emotional awareness and coping skills needed to navigate these experiences. Many young people face challenges related to anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, self-esteem, and relationships, with these experiences often shaped by a combination of interconnected factors including societal pressures, family dynamics, and other internal and external stressors.
Parents do their very best to support their children often based on what they themselves were taught and experienced growing up, while simultaneously navigating the demands and stressors of everyday life. This can leave families feeling overwhelmed, disconnected and caught in patterns of misunderstanding and relational stress.
I believe therapy offers a space for children, adolescents, and parents to slow down, reflect, and better understand themselves and one another with curiosity, compassion, and empathy. My goal is to create a warm, supportive, and non judgmental environment where young people and caregivers feel safe expressing themselves openly while exploring the underlying emotional and relational patterns that may be shaping their thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and relationships.
Whether you are a child, adolescent, or parent, I aim to meet you where you are at, tailoring our work to your unique strengths, developmental stage, experiences, and goals. I value collaboration throughout the therapeutic process and believe that your lived experiences, values, and insights should guide the direction of our work together.
I take an integrative and individualized approach to therapy, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Drawing from evidence-based modalities including CBT, DBT, EFT, ACT, and somatic based approaches, I support you in developing greater emotional awareness and strategies to communicate and cope with your emotions effectively, to ultimately achieve deeper connection within yourself and in your relationships with others.
Rachael supports children, adolescents, young adults, and families in the education, social services, and mental health sectors. Most recently, Rachael worked at an Early Psychosis Intervention team in Toronto, providing assessment, therapy and case management services to adolescents and young adults ages 16-34 experiencing psychosis and concurrent mental health challenges. She also worked closely with families, supporting them in understanding their loved one’s mental health challenges and helping them build the tools, communication strategies, and confidence needed to provide meaningful support.
